Building & Grounds

Matt Sakurada is the Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee.

Matt is President of EmPower Resources, Inc. and so generously volunteers his time and talent to support our efforts.

Walt Borge has come out of retirement to share his knowledge and skills by supporting this committee.

Bob Lawrence, retail hardware manager/artist, is able to help as needed.

At the last annual dinner meeting, Matt and Walt were awarded hard-hats and clip-boards in appreciation

for all the time and work they have given to t.l.c. home.

In 2004 the drive way was re-surfaced.

Also in 2004 a concrete walkway was constructed for emergency evacuations.

Every door now has a safe way to transport our residents on wheels.

2005 Building Committee Projects

The first project completed this year has been to replace worn carpet and vinyl in hallway and a bedroom.

The committee is currently working on quotes for re-roofing the home.

Matt and Walt have been busy working up concepts for an interior wall removal and storage for program materials.

Also in the works are ideas for a walkway and other features (wind chimes, Whirly birds, bird feeding, etc.) in the woods. Raised garden areas for flowers and vegetables where our residents can help maintain and enjoy the fruits of labor. Having these concepts in place would allow our folks to work on their summer programs outdoors.

Roof Project

The roof replacement was completed in June 2005.

A spanking new roof, thanks to Carolina Metal Systems and the Building Committee's hard work.
